COMPOSITION

250 mg tablet contains:

Active substances: Praziquantel 25 mg; Pyrantel 72 mg

Excipients (lactose, starch, PVP K30, aerosil, talcum, avicel, magnesium stearate) up to      250 mg

PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION

Praziquantel is an antihelminthic effective against taenia (flatworms), destroying both adult and

immature forms. Praziquantel stimulates the secretion of the intestinal glands and helps the enzymes from the intestinal juice to act against the parasites.

Pyrantel is active against roundworms by blocking the neuromuscular transmission (depolarization). This causes paralysis of muscles followed by death of parasite. The active substance stimulates also the intestinal peristalsis, favoring elimination of the dead parasites.

INDICATIONS

Total is a last generation antihelminthic recommended for control of parasites in dogs and cats. It is active against the following parasites: Toxocara canis, Toxocara cati, Toxascaris leonina, Uncinaria stenocephala, Ancylostoma caninum, Ancylostoma tubaeforme, Echinococcus granulosus, Echinococcus multilocularis, Dipylidium caninum, Taenia spp., Mesocestoides spp.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Do not use in weakened or poorly maintained animals. Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to the active substance or any excipient.

METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION

Tablets are administered per se or incorporated into the food as follows:

WARNINGS

Assess correctly the animal’s body weight in order to prevent under or overdoses.

Do not administer in the first half of the pregnancy period. Do not administer during lactation. Do not administer with drugs containing piperazine.

Avoid the following actions since they increase the risk of resistance occurrence and thus treatment could be ineffective:

  • long-term frequent and repeated use of same class antiparasitics;

underdosage as a result of inaccurate determination of body weight.
