COLISTIROM – I
Solution for injection
Broad spectrum antibiotic
Active substance: Colistin sulfate 1,000,000 IU/ml;
Excipients (nipagin, nipasol, distilled water) ad 1 ml
Colistin sulfate is also called polymixin E; it is produced by Bacillus colistinus, having a lipopeptidic structure similar to that of polymixin B, having a single different amino acid. It has bactericide effect against various gram – negative bacilli, the antibiotic spectrum being practically identical to that of polymixin B, with similar mechanism of action. Colistin as injection can be useful in many infections – urinary, septicemia, endocarditis with enterobacteriaceae (except for Proteus). Colistin is better tolerated than polymixin B, but the adverse reactions are similar.
Resistance hardly occurs, but can be crossed with polymixin B.

- horses: pasteurellosis (Pasteurella spp.) and colibacillosis (Escherichia coli)
- calves: colibacillosis (Escherichia coli), pasteurellosis (Pasteurella spp.), salmonellosis (Salmonella spp.)
- swine: piobacillosis (Pseudomonas aeruginosa), salmonellosis (Salmonella spp.), colibacillosis (Escherichia coli), pasteurellosis (Pasteurella spp.), streptococcia (Streptococcus spp.), edema (colibacillary enterotoxiemia), arthritis and colibacillary omphalophlebitis ( Coli), pododermatitis (Fusobacterium ligneresi);
- lambs and kids: colibacillosis (Escherichia coli), pasteurellosis (Pasteurella spp.), salmonellosis (Salmonella spp.).
Do not use in rabbits.
METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION
The product is administered intramuscularly.
The common dose in horses, cattle, sheep, goats and swine is 0,5 – 1 ml / 10 kg body weight / day, for 3 – 6 days.
In horses and cattle over 400 kg of body weight, the maximal daily dose is of 40 ml, divided in two halves and administers for 3 to 6 days.
For appropriate dosage, accurately assess body weight to avoid overdose or underdose.
Assess correctly the animal’s body weight in order to avoid under- and overdoses.
The intramuscular injection is carried out in many sites if the volume to be injected is large.
Meat: 28 days.
Milk: 7 days.
Bottles of 50 and 100 ml.
