Colistin is a polymixin antibiotic with lipopeptidic structure which acts against Gram negative bacteria by irreversibly altering their cytoplasmic membrane. Low intestinal absorption of the product after oral administration provides good results in the treatment of enteritis caused by Gram negative germs (E.coli, Salmonella sp., Pasteurella sp., Haemophillus sp., Bordetella sp., etc.).
Calves, piglets, lambs, rabbits and poultry.
Treatment of enteropathies caused by colistin sensitive germs.
Do not use the product simultaneously with erythromycin, streptomycin, neomycin, gentamycin and cephalosporin.
When administered according to the recommended doses no adverse reactions were noticed.
METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION
Colistirom is administered orally, via the drinking water, individually or in mass, as follows:
- calves, piglets, lambs and rabbits: 0.6 – 0.8 g/10 kg of bodyweight /day, for 3 to 6 days;
- poultry: 6 – 8 g/10 liters of drinking water/day, for 3 to 6 days.
In fowl, the medicated water replaces completely the drinking water during the treatment.
In calves, piglets, lambs, rabbits, the product is dissolved in fresh water, tea or milk. Liquid used for preparing the solution (tea, water or milk) should not be hot, but have room temperature in order to not destroy the antibiotic. When administered individually, the product dissolves into a reduced water volume and administers with a syringe without needle in the mouth corner. The solution to be administered should be freshly prepared.
Do not use simultaneously with antibiotics as macrolides, cephalosporin and amino glycosides. The product may be used together with penicillin and tetracycline.
