The main component of Symphytum officinale – allantoin – has healing, moisturizing, anti-irritating and keratolytic properties. Allantoin is a non-toxic agent successfully used in cosmetic and veterinary skin products. It stimulates the cell proliferation and the new, healthy tissue development; it has a significant keratolytic effect and a strong emollient action, acting as a chemical agent for cell debris removal and site cleaning. The allantoin effect is noticed even at low concentration (0.1 – 2%).
The main component of Chelidonium majus – chelidonine – a bezophenanthrene derivative which acts similarly to morphine: it has sedative, analgesic, spasmolytic and cytostatic effect.
Camphor and menthol have a cooling and rubefacient effect on the area where applied. The excipient (gel base) provides an efficient skin penetration by the product, allowing it to act rapidly.
