Broad spectrum antimicrobial
Active substance: Oxytetracycline hydrochloride 10 g;
Excipients (procaine, nipagin, nipasol, propylene glycol, distilled water) ad 1 ml
Oxytetracycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic which acts by inhibiting the glutamic acid metabolism of Gram positive and Gram negative germs, large viruses, rickettsia, spirochetes. The active serum concentration is reached in about one hour after administration due to the relatively fast absorption. It crosses the placenta, being detected in pleural and cerebrospinal fluid.
Procaine is a local anesthetic which prevents pain during Oxytetracycline injection.
Cattle, swine, sheep, dogs and cats.
Cattle, sheep: colibacillosis, salmonellosis, pasteurellosis
Swine: in pneumonia, mycoplasma arthritis, pasteurellosis, pleuro-pneumonia, respiratory infections with multiple etiology (Actinobacillus spp., Haemophilus spp, Pasteurella spp.) proliferative enteritis (Lawsonia intracelullaris), erysipelas, leptospirosis, streptococci infections, arthritis (Fusobacterium spp.)
Dogs: coli bacillus induced enteritis, respiratory infections;
Cats: in respiratory infections;
Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to tetracycline and in hepatic or renal impairments.
Sometimes, after inoculation, pain may occur but usually it disappears after massaging the area.
METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION
The product is injected intramuscularly in cattle, swine and sheep, as follows:
Cattle: 1 ml/10 kg body weight/day or 10 ml/100 kg body weight/day, for 5 consecutive days;
Sheep: 1 ml/10 kg body weight/day for 5 consecutive days
Swine: 1.5 – 2 ml /10 kg body weight/day for 4 – 5 consecutive days.
The product is injected subcutaneously in dogs and cats, as follows:
Dogs: 2 ml/10 kg body weight/day for 5 consecutive days.
Cats: 1.5 ml /10 kg body weight/day, for 5 consecutive days
Accurately determine body weight, whenever possible, to avoid underdose
When possible, oxytetracycline should be used only based on the sensitivity tests.
Comply with the recommended treatment schedules. Give the product under medical supervision.
Do not use the product simultaneously with macrolides, sulphamides or trimethoprim.
General health condition of the animal should be considered when establish the therapeutic dose. Intramuscular administration should be carried out by deeply injection.
The injection is carried out in various sites if the volume to be administered is large.
Meat: 28 days;
Milk: 7 days
Bottles of 20, 50 or 100 ml.
