Broad spectrum antihelminthic
100 ml Rombendazol Plus contain:
Active substances: Albendazole 2.5 g/100 ml, Levamisole 1.5 g/100 ml;
Excipients (sodium carboxymethylcellulose 2%, polisorbate 80, benzoic acid, distilled water) up to 100 ml
Albendazole is a benzimidazole carbamate derivative, active against protozoa and parasites with intestinal, pulmonary or tissue location. Albendazole is rapidly absorbed and distributed in all organs and tissues, causing the lysis of the worms regardless of the species or categories of treated animals and of the location of parasites (respiratory or digestive tract, liver or other tissues). It is active against all of the developmental stages (eggs, larvae, adults) of flukes, tapeworms and roundworms.
The toxicity is relatively low; maximal admissible doses are 5 times higher than the therapeutic doses.
It is also active against some benzimidazole-resistant species of Haemonchus and Trichostrongylus
Levamisole is a broad spectrum antihelminthic which acts against the adult and immature forms of roundworms with pulmonary or gastrointestinal location in cattle and sheep. Levamisole stimulates both parasympathetic and sympathetic ganglia in parasitic worms, causing succinate dehydrogenasis blockage and the rapid, irreversible paralysis of the parasites which are then eliminated by feces or by cough, respectively. Levamisole has also a non specific imunostimulating action. Levamisole is active against some benzimidazole resistant species of Trichostrongylidae and association of these two substances enlarges the spectrum of action of Rombendazol Plus;
Rombendazol Plus is administered for the control of the internal parasites as follows:
- Trematodosis caused by Fasciolla (adult form and eggs), Dicrocelium, Paramphistomum.
- Gastrointestinal nematodosis induced by Haemonchus, Ostertagia, Trichostrongylus, Nematodirus, Cooperia, Chabertia, Bunostomum, Oesophagostomum, Capillaria, Trichocephalus, Ascaris ovis and Neoascaris vitulorum;
- Pulmonary nematodosis induced by Dictyocaulus, Protostrongylus, Müllerius, Cystocaulus, Neostrongylus;
- Cestodosis induced by adult form of Moniesia, Thysaniesia, Avitelina, with intestinal location;
- Muscle, visceral and serous cyisticercosis caused by Echinococcus granulosus, Taenia saginata, Taenia hidatigena;
The prophylactic program should consist of 4 annual administrations, namely before grazing, during grazing (in July and September) and after stabulation.
Do not use in animals producing milk for human consumption.
Do not use in cows during the mating period and in the first 45 days of pregnancy.
Do not use in ewes and goats in the mating period and in the first 30 days of pregnancy.
In case of overdose, agitation, frequent defecations and urinations may occur but these symptoms disappear in almost 30 minutes.
In major infestations (mainly with Ascaris ovis and Neoascaris vitulorum) in calves and lambs, the toxins released after the parasite death could cause nervous phenomena: ataxia, astazia, adynamia, etc. These phenomena are transient and are not caused by the product. METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION
The treatment is administered orally using a syringe without needle or a dosing gun. The usual dose is of 3 – 5 ml suspension/10 kg body weight. The administration should be repeated after 24 or 48 hours.
The product is administered orally into the corner of the mouth. Shake well the bottle before use. Assess correctly the animal’s body weight in order to avoid under- and overdoses. The tongue of the animal should not be immobilized but let free, in order to avoid the aspiration bronchopneumonia.
The product can be used in the first half of the pregnancy in ewes in dose of 2 ml/10 kg bodyweight.
Do not use the product simultaneously with organophosphorous or diethylcarbamasine citrate products; these product should not be used 14 days before and after the treatment with Rombendazol plus.
To be supplied only on veterinary prescription.
